چکیده

Coralline algae (Rhodophyta, Florideophyceae) are one of the most abundant organisms in hard-bottom marine photic zone where they provide settlement substrates, structure and shelter on rocky substrates. also play important roles tropical reefs, both cementing corals together producing substantial amounts calcium carbonate. The ecological coralline environment related to biomineralization process that occurs cell walls. Currently, this group is receiving renewed attention from researchers different fields, especially due possible effects climate changes over its magnesium calcite skeleton. Despite attention, we still have poor information regarding first steps ontogeny calcification. aim study was describe earlier Lithophyllum corallinae development calcification process. Algae were collected at Vermelha Beach, Rio de Janeiro city. Adult crusts released spores settled microscope slides. germinating analyzed by Polarizing Light Microscopy, Scanning Electron Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, Transmission Microscopy Atomic Force Microscopy. Results showed walls mineralization begins third spore division (8 cells specimen), evidenced light polarization, elemental composition hardness, restricted innermost part developing spore. Nanopores crystals identified, evidencing macromolecules occlusion, a feature prevent skeleton cracking high-energy environments. beginning could be size, availability organic matrix energy photosynthesis. All analysis confirmed lack outermost spore, which allows growth individual; but mainly indicates high level control process, representing relevant future studies calcification, including those testing scenarios.

Coralline algae (Rhodophyta) in a changing world: integrating ecological, physiological, and geochemical responses to global change

Coralline algae are globally distributed benthic primary producers that secrete calcium carbonate skeletons. In the context of ocean acidification, they have received much recent attention due to the potential vulnerability of their high-Mg calcite skeletons and their many important ecological roles. Herein, we summarize what is known about coralline algal ecology and physiology, providing cont...

First evidence of chitin in calcified coralline algae: new insights into the calcification process of Clathromorphum compactum

Interest in calcifying coralline algae has been increasing over the past years due to the discovery of extensive coralline algal dominated ecosystems in Arctic and Subarctic latitudes, their projected sensitivity to ocean acidification and their utility as palaeoenvironmental proxies. Thus, it is crucial to obtain a detailed understanding of their calcification process. We here extracted calcif...

Eukaryotic Life Inhabits Rhodolith-forming Coralline Algae (Hapalidiales, Rhodophyta), Remarkable Marine Benthic Microhabitats

Rhodoliths are benthic calcium carbonate nodules accreted by crustose coralline red algae which recently have been identified as useful indicators of biomineral changes resulting from global climate change and ocean acidification. This study highlights the discovery that the interior of rhodoliths are marine biodiversity hotspots that function as seedbanks and temporary reservoirs of previously...

Calcification of the Arctic coralline red algae Lithothamnion glaciale in response to elevated CO2

Rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations could cause a calcium carbonate subsaturation of Arctic surface waters in the next 20 yr, making these waters corrosive for calcareous organisms. It is presently unknown what effects this will have on Arctic calcifying organisms and the ecosystems of which they are integral components. So far, acidification effects on crustose coralline red algae (CCA) have...

the analysis of the role of the speech acts theory in translating and dubbing hollywood films
